I am going to talk about the importance of living a deliberate life. We live in a culture of busyness, jumping from one thing to another before we collapse in front of the TV at the end of the day. Years can pass this way, until we wake up and suddenly realize we are not living the life we imagined or intended.
Living a deliberate life means recognizing and making choices that nourish our hearts, minds and bodies.
The tempo of the current American lifestyle is to go, go, go and then find a way to escape from it all. But what is it all? Isn’t that our life we‘re trying to escape? Rather than living a life of high-speed stress from which we are always looking for an out, we should cultivate mindfulness in our everyday lives.
How does one live a deliberate life?
In my talk at Heart Camp we will discus straightforward and practical ways to live deliberately. These steps address both our physical hearts as well as our spiritual hearts. They include:
1. Cultivating awareness
2. Identifying habits of thoughts and behaviors
3. Recognizing the power of choice
4. Deciding to engage in life, rather than escape from it
Taking care of ourselves is never a selfish act. It is the first step in taking care of others. Strengthening our own hearts leaves us with a more powerful heart which we can use to love others. Ultimately, living a deliberate life opens us up to living a more loving life.
